Account prompt

A message asking a user to sign in, confirm, or reset access to an account.

An account prompt is a message that asks a user to sign in, confirm their identity, approve a change, or reset access to an account. It can appear in a website, app, game launcher, email, or pop-up dialog, and it often requests a password, one-time code, or recovery action.

In cyber security, account prompts matter because they are a common target for phishing and social engineering. Attackers copy the look of legitimate prompts to trick users into entering credentials on a fake page or approving a malicious sign-in. Defenders look for signs such as unexpected urgency, mismatched URLs, or requests that do not fit the normal login flow. A safe practice is to open the service directly, not through the prompt, and verify any account action before responding.
