AI-assisted malware

malicious code or workflows that use AI features or automation to improve abuse.

AI-assisted malware is malicious code, or an attack workflow around it, that uses AI features or automation to make abuse easier, faster, or more effective. The AI may help generate phishing text, adapt lures, automate command sequences, or assist with evasion and target selection.

It matters because attackers do not need fully autonomous malware to benefit from AI. Even small automation gains can reduce the effort needed to scale scams, deliver payloads, or respond to defenses. In real intrusions, AI-assisted workflows may appear in social-engineering messages, scripted “help” prompts, or malware campaigns that change behavior to avoid detection. Defenders should watch for unusual prompt-driven actions, suspicious use of legitimate AI services, and attack chains that combine persuasion, automation, and attempts to disable security tools.
