AI chat logs are the conversation records created when a user interacts with an AI assistant, whether in a browser, app, or enterprise platform. They can include prompts, generated replies, pasted code, credentials, personal data, and internal business details. Because users often treat these chats like private workspaces, the logs can become a rich target for theft or unwanted collection.
In cyber security, AI chat logs matter because they may reveal secrets that are not protected elsewhere. A malicious browser extension, compromised plugin, or over-permissioned app can read page content, capture what appears in the chat interface, and send it to an external server. Defenders reduce this risk with least-privilege access, extension allowlists, DLP controls, logging review, and guidance to avoid entering sensitive data into untrusted AI tools. If exposed logs may contain secrets, assume they are compromised and rotate them.
