AI-generated video is video created entirely by generative AI tools instead of being recorded by a camera. It can look realistic, but its frames, motion, faces, or voices may be synthesized rather than captured from a real event. In cyber security, this matters because synthetic video can be used to impersonate executives, fabricate evidence, amplify scams, or spread misinformation at scale.
Defenders look for provenance signals, watermarking, and detection tools that compare media patterns against known camera artifacts or editing histories. Platforms may also rank or filter synthetic clips differently, because visibility can be as important as upload access. A video does not need to be banned to be risky; if it is amplified in feeds, it can still influence users, pressure victims, or support social engineering. The security challenge is separating authentic footage, AI-assisted edits, and fully synthetic media.
