AI oversight

Governance controls applied to AI features to limit unsafe behavior, misuse, or unmanaged risk.

AI oversight is the set of governance controls used to review, restrict, and monitor AI features so they do not create unsafe behavior, enable misuse, or introduce unmanaged risk. It can include approval gates before release, red-team testing, policy checks, access controls, logging, and human review of high-impact outputs. The goal is to make AI systems predictable enough to operate inside a security program.

This matters because AI can amplify existing security problems. A poorly governed model may expose sensitive data, generate harmful instructions, or make automated decisions that attackers can exploit through prompt injection, data poisoning, or model abuse. Defenders use AI oversight to reduce these risks by defining allowed use cases, watching for abnormal behavior, and requiring escalation when a model behaves outside policy. In practice, strong oversight turns AI from an uncontrolled feature into a managed asset.
