Air defense

systems used to detect, track, and counter aerial threats.

Air defense refers to the systems, sensors, weapons, and command networks used to detect, track, identify, and counter aerial threats such as aircraft, missiles, and drones. It includes radar, electro-optical sensors, data links, fire-control software, and the operators who coordinate responses.

In cyber security, air defense matters because these systems are software-driven and networked. An attacker may try to jam signals, spoof sensor data, disrupt communications, or compromise command-and-control software to delay or misdirect a response. Defenders protect air defense with network segmentation, authenticated communications, redundant sensors, secure updates, and continuous monitoring. In practice, the strongest air defense is not only about interceptors; it also depends on trusted data, resilient infrastructure, and tightly controlled access to the systems that make detection and response possible.
