Archive fragments

Small sample files used to pressure a target or support an extortion claim.

Archive fragments are small sample files presented as excerpts from a larger archive that an attacker claims to have stolen. In extortion campaigns, criminals may publish or offer these samples to pressure a target, suggest that data was taken, or encourage buyers to pay for the purported full collection.

Fragments can help defenders assess a claim, but they do not by themselves prove that an intrusion occurred or that the files are authentic, complete, or current. Security teams should preserve the samples and verify them safely against known records, while checking access logs, credentials, and data-handling systems for evidence of exposure. Treat the files as a warning signal-not conclusive proof of a breach.
