An Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) is the organizational framework used to govern AI policies, objectives, roles, and processes. It is not the AI model itself; it is the management layer around how AI is selected, built, approved, deployed, monitored, and improved. In practice, an AIMS defines who owns an AI system, what risk checks are required, what data may be used, and how decisions are documented.
AIMS matters in cyber security because AI introduces new attack surfaces and control gaps. Weak governance can lead to unsafe data use, poor access control, untracked model changes, or missing audit records. A mature AIMS supports defenses such as logging, version control, review workflows, incident handling, and continuous monitoring. It also helps detect abuse like unauthorized model updates, data poisoning, or the use of unapproved AI tools with sensitive information. In short, an AIMS turns AI oversight into a repeatable security process rather than an ad hoc policy statement.
