Automated submission

A report produced with scripts or other tooling, often at high volume and with limited manual verification.

Automated submission is a vulnerability report generated by scripts, templates, or other tooling rather than written and verified by a person. These reports are often produced at high volume and may contain little or no manual testing, which means they can be repetitive, low quality, or outright invalid.

In cyber security, automated submissions matter because they can overwhelm bug bounty and incident-response queues. Reviewers must spend time checking whether a report describes a real flaw, has a reproducible test case, and matches the program’s scope. Attackers and opportunistic submitters may use automation to spam reward programs, probe for weak controls, or flood defenders with noise. Good defenses include intake filtering, rate limits, deduplication, required reproduction steps, and triage rules that reject reports lacking clear evidence. When handled well, automation can help researchers test systems at scale; when abused, it becomes an operational burden that hides genuine vulnerabilities.
