In cybersecurity, awareness and training are related but different. Awareness is the ability to recognize a risk, such as phishing, unsafe links, or suspicious requests. Training goes further: it teaches people how to respond correctly, such as reporting a message, verifying a request, or using secure login steps.
This distinction matters because knowing about a threat does not guarantee safe behavior under pressure. Real attacks often exploit urgency, routine work, or authority to push users into mistakes. Defenders use awareness programs, simulations, and hands-on training to improve response, but these controls work best when combined with technical safeguards like email filtering, strong authentication, and clear reporting channels. In practice, awareness helps people spot danger; training helps them act safely when they do.
