AWS Budgets

A cloud budgeting tool used to set spending thresholds and trigger alerts.

AWS Budgets is a native AWS cost-control service that lets teams define spending or usage thresholds and send alerts when actual or forecasted consumption crosses those limits. It can track monthly cost, reserved instance coverage, usage, and other billing dimensions, giving operations and finance teams a shared view of cloud spend.

In cyber security, AWS Budgets matters because cloud abuse often shows up first as an expense spike. A misconfigured workload, runaway automation, or an attacker using stolen credentials to launch resources can quickly generate unexpected charges. Budget alerts do not stop the activity by themselves, but they provide early warning so defenders can investigate logs, tag affected workloads, and shut down the source before losses grow. Used with CloudWatch metrics, tagging, and anomaly detection, AWS Budgets becomes part of a practical control stack for spotting silent drift and unauthorized cloud usage.
