AWS Organizations

AWS’s multi-account management service, which can help centralize or reduce root credential exposure.

AWS Organizations is AWS’s multi-account management service. It lets security teams group accounts under one administrative structure, apply policies centrally, and manage billing, guardrails, and account provisioning from a single place. In practice, it is used to reduce administrative sprawl and keep sensitive settings consistent across many environments.

From a security perspective, AWS Organizations matters because it can limit how often the root user is needed. That reduces the number of accounts where root credentials must exist, be stored, or be protected. In real defenses, organizations use it to enforce baseline controls such as MFA, service restrictions, and delegated administration, which helps contain the impact if one account is probed or compromised. In attack scenarios, adversaries often target the most privileged identity in a cloud account; centralizing control and minimizing root exposure makes that target harder to abuse and easier to monitor.
