Bed management is the process of allocating, tracking, and optimizing hospital bed use so patient demand matches available capacity. It includes knowing which beds are occupied, which units are full, when discharges are likely, and where incoming patients can safely be placed. In modern hospitals, this is often tied to scheduling systems, electronic health records, and patient-flow software.
From a cyber-security perspective, bed management is important because it affects availability, safety, and operational continuity. If an attacker disrupts the data or software behind bed assignment, staff may lose visibility into capacity, delay admissions or transfers, and create bottlenecks across the hospital. Defenders therefore treat these tools as critical systems: they need strong access control, logging, backups, and manual fallback procedures. Reliable bed management depends not only on accurate data, but also on protecting it from tampering, outages, and unauthorized access.
