BI Connector

A middleware layer that helps SQL-based analytics tools communicate with MongoDB.

A BI Connector is middleware that lets SQL-based business intelligence and analytics tools talk to MongoDB as if it were a relational database. It translates queries, manages connection settings, and helps reporting software work with MongoDB data without changing the underlying applications.

In cybersecurity, this layer matters because it sits between users and the database and often handles authentication material, session state, and query mediation. Bugs in a BI Connector can therefore expose sensitive credentials, disrupt reporting, or widen the attack surface even when the database core is not directly compromised. Defenders should inventory connector instances, treat DSNs and login profiles as sensitive, and replace aging middleware when newer supported connectivity options are available.
