BIP-32 is the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal that defines hierarchical deterministic (HD) key derivation. From one master seed, a wallet can generate a tree of child private keys, public keys, and addresses in a predictable but cryptographically secure way. This lets users back up one seed instead of many separate keys.
In cyber security, BIP-32 matters because it concentrates risk: if the master seed is weak, exposed, or guessed, an attacker may derive every address and spend from the whole wallet. That makes seed generation a critical control point. Defenders pair BIP-32 with strong entropy, secure backup, and careful wallet initialization. In attacks, criminals often target the seed rather than the blockchain itself, because compromising the root secret can reveal an entire set of derived accounts at once.
