A canone mensile is a fixed payment charged every month to keep access to a service, product, or platform. In cybersecurity, this model is common for SaaS tools, cloud security platforms, managed detection and response, VPNs, and payment or identity services. The key property is predictability: the customer pays for continued access rather than a one-time license.
It matters because recurring billing creates security and abuse risks. Attackers often target subscription accounts through phishing, credential theft, or billing-page compromise to extend access, steal premium features, or change payment details. Defenders also use monthly billing records as signals: unexpected renewals, duplicate subscriptions, or unknown vendor charges can indicate account takeover or shadow IT. When reviewing a security service, the monthly fee should be matched against usage, admin controls, and the sensitivity of the data it protects.
