A carriera incerta is a professional path with unclear progression, weak promotion criteria, or unstable contracts. In cyber security, this often means skilled analysts, engineers, or researchers do not know how they will grow, specialize, or stay in a role long enough to build deep expertise. That uncertainty can lower motivation, increase turnover, and leave teams short on hard-to-replace knowledge.
This matters because security work depends on continuity: incident response, threat hunting, identity management, and secure engineering all improve when people stay long enough to learn systems and patterns. Attackers benefit when organizations lose experienced staff, since turnover can weaken monitoring, slow patching, and create gaps in documentation. Defenders reduce the risk by defining job levels, training paths, and mentorship, and by capturing procedures in playbooks so critical knowledge does not vanish with each departure.
