Catalog integrity is the consistency and accuracy of product information across a retailer’s storefront, data feeds, and backend systems. It includes details such as product identifiers, descriptions, prices, stock status, shipping terms, and return policies. When these records agree and stay current, people and automated systems can rely on them.
In cyber security, catalog integrity is a data-quality and trust concern: unauthorized changes or synchronization failures can cause incorrect offers or availability to be displayed. Attackers who gain access to publishing or inventory systems may be able to tamper with product data, while ordinary integration errors can create similar inconsistencies. Retailers can reduce these risks by limiting access to catalog tools, validating changes, keeping a clear source of truth, and regularly comparing feeds and storefront data. Machine-readable product data is useful only when it is accurate and up to date.
