Catalog pipeline

The backend process that publishes and updates products across sales channels.

A catalog pipeline is the backend workflow that creates, validates, publishes, and updates product records across sales channels such as web stores, mobile apps, and partner marketplaces. It usually moves data from an internal source of truth into one or more public-facing listings, adding fields like price, region, platform, and availability along the way.

In cyber security, the catalog pipeline matters because it is a high-trust path: if an attacker can alter it, they may change prices, swap product descriptions, hide warnings, or publish fraudulent listings at scale. Defenders protect this path with strong authentication, approval steps, integrity checks, audit logs, and rollback controls. In real operations, many incidents are not “hacks” in the dramatic sense but pipeline failures, such as a bad deployment, a stale record, or an unauthorized metadata change that spreads instantly to every storefront.
