Change velocity

the pace at which an organization introduces and absorbs new operational shifts.

Change velocity is the pace at which an organization introduces and absorbs operational shifts. It includes more than how quickly a change is launched: teams also need to stabilize new processes, assess their effects, and adapt without disrupting essential operations.

In cyber security, high change velocity can mean frequent software releases, infrastructure updates, or changes to access controls. These shifts can improve defenses, but poorly coordinated changes may create misconfigurations, overlooked vulnerabilities, or gaps in monitoring. Security teams manage the risk by testing changes, tracking them, and verifying that controls continue to work after deployment.
