A Chromium browser is any web browser built on the open-source Chromium project, including Chrome-like products that share much of the same engine, user interface behavior, and profile storage patterns. These browsers typically keep sensitive data such as saved passwords, cookies, autofill records, and browsing history inside local profile files on the endpoint.
This matters in cyber security because infostealers and other malware often target those profile stores directly. If an attacker can read the files or associated encryption material, they may recover credentials or session cookies that let them reuse an already signed-in browser session. That makes Chromium browsers a frequent target in account-takeover campaigns. Defenders should treat browser profiles as high-value data, restrict local access, monitor for unusual reads of browser storage, and prefer phishing-resistant authentication where possible.
