Clipboard protection

A safeguard meant to reduce risky copy-paste interactions.

Clipboard protection refers to browser or operating-system safeguards that reduce the risk of harmful copy-and-paste actions. Depending on the implementation, a safeguard may warn about suspicious instructions, restrict clipboard access, or interrupt a risky interaction. The exact mechanism varies; the term alone does not imply a particular technical control.

Attackers can use social engineering to persuade people to copy and paste commands or other content into a system, turning a familiar action into a security risk. Clipboard protections aim to add friction or context at that point, helping users pause before proceeding. They complement measures such as suspicious-site warnings and endpoint defenses, but cannot guarantee safety: users may ignore warnings, and legitimate workflows must still function.
