Commercial intelligence

The process of turning market data, text, and signals into actionable business decisions.

Commercial intelligence is the process of collecting market data, text, and signals and turning them into actionable business decisions. It can include public sources, sales records, customer behavior, tenders, web content, and partner data. In cybersecurity, the same discipline is useful because business signals often reveal technical exposure, sensitive workflows, or valuable targets.

Attackers use commercial intelligence for reconnaissance. They may study websites, employee profiles, press releases, procurement notices, and product pages to build convincing phishing, impersonation, or business email compromise campaigns. Defenders use it to spot fraud patterns, monitor brand abuse, assess vendor risk, and prioritize exposures that matter to revenue and operations. Good commercial intelligence depends on data quality, access control, and human review, because weak or stale signals can lead to bad security decisions.
