Compliance roadmap

A plan that tracks legal milestones, internal tasks, and evidence needed to meet regulatory duties.

A compliance roadmap is a structured plan for meeting legal and regulatory duties. It breaks the work into milestones, assigns internal tasks, and defines the evidence needed to prove compliance, such as policies, training records, risk assessments, audit logs, and vendor documents. In cyber security, the roadmap helps teams turn broad obligations into operational steps, including access control reviews, incident-response updates, encryption checks, and governance approvals.

This matters because compliance work is often time-sensitive and depends on multiple teams. If deadlines shift or requirements are phased in, a roadmap keeps security, legal, procurement, and operations aligned instead of forcing rushed last-minute changes. Attackers benefit when organizations delay these tasks, because hurried implementations can leave gaps in logging, patching, oversight, or third-party controls. Defenders use a roadmap to track progress, show auditors evidence, and reduce the chance that regulatory pressure creates insecure shortcuts.
