Concurrency

The number of users or sessions active at the same time.

Concurrency is the number of users, sessions, or connections active at the same time. In security operations, it is a key load metric because it shows how much simultaneous demand a service is handling, not just how much total traffic it receives over a day.

High concurrency matters because many attacks and failures are time-based. A flash crowd, bot activity, password attacks, or application abuse can all raise concurrency and stress authentication, APIs, databases, and streaming systems. Defenders watch concurrency alongside latency and error rates to spot overload, capacity gaps, or suspicious bursts. If baselines are not adjusted for expected events, normal activity can look malicious; if they are too broad, abuse can hide inside legitimate sessions.
