Contextual data is information about a situation or user that helps a system tailor its response or action. It can include location, time, device state, recent activity, or account preferences. A voice assistant in a vehicle, for example, may use context to interpret a request or provide a relevant answer.
Context can improve usability, but it also affects privacy and security: more collected or connected information can increase the impact of accidental disclosure, excessive permissions, or compromised accounts. In real systems, contextual data may shape assistant responses, navigation suggestions, or access decisions. Defenses include collecting only what is necessary, limiting access, protecting data in transit and at rest, and making permissions and data use clear to users.
