Cross-chain tracing is the process of following crypto assets as they move from one blockchain to another. Criminals use bridges, swaps, wrapped tokens, and exchange deposits to break a trail into smaller pieces, but each hop can still leave evidence such as transaction hashes, timestamps, contract interactions, and destination wallets.
This matters because moving funds across chains often makes laundering harder to analyze, not invisible. Investigators and compliance teams use chain analytics to connect related addresses, spot repeated patterns, and correlate activity across networks. In real attacks, cross-chain tracing can reveal where stolen funds are consolidated, routed to exchanges, or prepared for cash-out. Defenders use it to support freezes, sanctions screening, and faster incident response before assets leave the reachable part of the ecosystem.
