CVE-2021-36260 is a Hikvision vulnerability involving command injection in certain affected products. Command injection happens when an application passes attacker-controlled input to the operating system as if it were a trusted command. If the device is exposed and unpatched, an unauthenticated attacker may be able to run commands on the target.
This matters because cameras, DVRs, and NVRs are often deployed at the network edge and forgotten after installation. In real attacks, defenders may see scanning or concentrated exploit attempts against internet-facing devices that still accept vulnerable requests. The practical defenses are straightforward: inventory exposed assets, apply firmware updates, restrict remote management, and segment surveillance gear away from critical systems.
