Cyber Supply-Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) is the process of finding, measuring, and reducing security risk across the full chain of suppliers, parts, software, firmware, and support services that an organization depends on. It looks beyond the buyer’s own network and asks whether a vendor, update path, maintenance channel, or third-party component could introduce compromise.
C-SCRM matters because attackers often exploit trusted relationships instead of attacking a hardened target directly. A weak supplier account, malicious update, altered component, or insecure remote support connection can provide initial access or persistence. Defenders use C-SCRM to vet vendors, verify software integrity, restrict remote access, segment critical systems, and monitor for changes in trusted components. In sectors like energy, where IT, OT, and many vendors are tightly linked, C-SCRM is a core control for reducing both operational disruption and financial loss.
