DVI

A digital video interface used to send display signals to monitors.

DVI, or Digital Video Interface, is a display connector and signaling standard used to send video from a computer or embedded device to a monitor. It carries digital image data with strict timing and electrical requirements, which is why a display will only show an image if the source meets the expected format. In practice, DVI matters because it is one of the common ways small boards and larger systems present output to screens.

In cybersecurity, DVI appears whenever defenders test physical access paths, embedded devices, or unusual hardware behavior. A board that can generate DVI-style signals may be able to drive a monitor, show status, or present a console without a full graphics chip. That can help in secure diagnostics, but it also matters in threat modeling: any exposed display interface can reveal information, support unauthorized device activity, or be used in lab demos that push hardware beyond its documented role.
