ECSP Regulation

EU rules governing crowdfunding service providers and related online investment activity.

The ECSP Regulation is the EU framework for crowdfunding service providers and related online investment activity. It sets rules for licensing, disclosure, investor protection, and platform conduct so that online capital raising follows a common legal baseline across member states. In practice, it helps define who can operate a funding platform, what information must be shown to investors, and how offers are structured and monitored.

From a cyber-security perspective, the regulation matters because crowdfunding platforms handle identity data, payment flows, offer documents, and investor accounts. That makes them attractive targets for phishing, account takeover, fraudulent listings, and website or API abuse. Compliance controls often overlap with security controls: strong authentication, record integrity, access management, and clear audit trails. Defenders use the regulatory requirements to harden workflows and reduce the risk that attackers can impersonate issuers, alter investment details, or steal funds through social engineering.
