EDI archives

electronic data interchange records that can support logistics workflows.

EDI archives are stored electronic data interchange records: the structured messages companies use to exchange purchase orders, shipping notices, invoices, and other logistics data. They are often kept as archives for auditing, replaying transactions, troubleshooting, and keeping supply-chain workflows running.

In cyber security, EDI archives matter because they can expose more than raw filenames or emails. Attackers who obtain them may learn shipment timing, partner relationships, routing details, and operational dependencies, which can increase extortion pressure or help with follow-on intrusion. Defenders should treat these files as operationally sensitive, not just administrative clutter. Strong access control, encryption, retention limits, integrity checks, and logging help reduce the impact if an archive store is breached or copied.
