Endpoint recovery is the process of restoring a managed device after failure, reset, theft, wipe, or other loss of service. In enterprise security, recovery usually means more than putting a machine back on: it can include reapplying policies, reinstalling software, restoring data, re-enrolling the device in management, and rebuilding trusted settings such as certificates and access controls.
This matters because endpoints are common targets for ransomware, destructive malware, and unauthorized resets. If recovery is slow or incomplete, users lose productivity and security controls can drift. Strong recovery design helps defenders return devices to a known-good state quickly, using backups, imaging, cloud sync, and endpoint management tools. It also supports resilience features such as settings backup, but those features still need governance so that the restored device matches organizational policy, compliance requirements, and identity protections.
