Enrolment is the process of collecting, checking, and binding identity data to issue a credential such as an ID card, account, or digital identity. In a secure enrolment flow, the system verifies supporting evidence, captures the subject’s data, and records enough provenance to prove how the credential was created. The face photo, name, document number, and other attributes are not just fields; they become part of the trust foundation for everything issued later.
In cyber security, enrolment matters because weak input creates weak identity. Attackers may try to submit forged documents, altered images, or stolen personal data during registration to obtain a valid credential under the wrong identity. Defenders reduce this risk with document validation, biometric checks, operator controls, device integrity checks, and audit logs that preserve traceability. Strong enrolment is an upstream control: if bad data enters here, later authentication, recovery, and reuse steps may inherit the error.
