Enterprise Agreement

A volume licensing contract that sets acquisition and usage terms, and in some cases may be relevant to transfer or resale disputes.

An Enterprise Agreement is a volume licensing contract between a software vendor and an organization. It defines how many users or devices are covered, what products may be deployed, renewal or upgrade terms, and sometimes limits on transfer, resale, or reassignment of licences. In large environments, the agreement is often the legal source of truth for software entitlements.

In cyber security, these contracts matter because they shape what software is authorized, which versions can be used, and whether old installations remain compliant. Poorly managed agreements can leave teams with unsupported systems, gaps in patching, or disputes over whether software can be moved between machines or resold. During audits, incident response, or litigation, defenders often rely on Enterprise Agreement records, invoices, and usage reports to prove entitlement, preserve evidence, and show how licensing changes were handled.
