Windows Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power) and Event ID 6008 (EventLog) can be recorded after a system shuts down or restarts unexpectedly. They indicate that Windows did not complete a normal shutdown; neither event identifies what caused the interruption.
In cybersecurity investigations, these entries can help establish when a server became unavailable, but they are not proof of an attack or a particular fault. A crash triggered by malformed network traffic, a power loss, or a hardware problem may all leave similar records. Responders should correlate the timestamps with system logs, crash dumps, hardware diagnostics, and network telemetry such as SMB traffic to assess the cause.
