Fake wallet app

A malicious app that imitates a cryptocurrency wallet to capture credentials, seed phrases, or payments.

A fake wallet app is a malicious mobile application that imitates a legitimate cryptocurrency wallet. Its goal is to make the victim believe they are installing or opening a trusted tool, then capture login details, seed phrases, recovery codes, or even payment approvals. Because crypto transactions are often irreversible, a successful deception can lead to immediate and hard-to-recover losses.

Attackers use fake wallet apps in phishing campaigns, support scams, and lure-based installs. A phone call or email may create urgency, while the app provides the final step where the victim enters sensitive information. Defenders should treat unexpected wallet-install prompts as hostile, verify app names and publishers, and prefer official app stores and direct links from trusted sources. Mobile security controls, user awareness, and seed-phrase hygiene are key defenses.
