Go implant

Malware written in the Go programming language, often used for portable cross-platform execution.

A Go implant is malware written in the Go programming language. Go is attractive to attackers because it can be compiled into a single, portable binary that runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS with little modification. That portability makes it easier to reuse the same payload across different systems and environments.

In cyber security, Go implants matter because they often blend in with normal software behavior while still delivering harmful functions such as credential theft, remote command execution, file collection, or persistence. They may be embedded in installers, package updates, or helper tools, then launched when a module is imported or a plugin starts. Defenders should look for unusual child processes, unexpected network traffic, and binaries that appear in places tied to application or build activity. Because Go programs are frequently statically linked, analysis and detection can be harder than with more familiar scripting malware.
