Governance cadence

A regular schedule of reviews and meetings used to monitor performance and drive corrective action.

Governance cadence is the fixed rhythm of review meetings, reports, and decision points used to track performance and force follow-up. In cyber security, it keeps security work from becoming a one-time checklist by creating regular checkpoints for risk, incidents, exceptions, and remediation progress. A good cadence turns scattered metrics into actionable decisions: who owns the issue, what changed, what is overdue, and what must escalate.

It matters because attackers benefit when defenses are reviewed too slowly or only after a crisis. Teams use governance cadence to review vulnerability backlogs, patch status, access reviews, phishing trends, and third-party risk. During an active defense, the cadence may be daily for incidents, weekly for operational fixes, and monthly for leadership oversight. In outsourcing and managed services, it also helps buyers challenge weak performance, detect gaming, and verify that corrective action is actually happening.
