Governance dossier

Bundle of documents used to show decisions, controls, and accountability around AI use.

A governance dossier is a bundled set of records that shows how an AI system was approved, controlled, and monitored. It usually includes the system’s purpose, owner, data sources, risk review, policy decisions, vendor details, and any safeguards such as access limits or human review. In cyber security, this matters because security teams need evidence, not just promises: they must be able to prove who authorized the tool, what data it can reach, and how misuse is prevented.

In real environments, governance dossiers help defend against shadow AI, unsafe data sharing, and unclear responsibility when a model changes or a vendor is replaced. They are also useful during audits, incident response, and privacy reviews because they let teams reconstruct decisions and identify gaps quickly. Attackers benefit when organizations lack this documentation, since weak oversight often means exposed data, unmanaged integrations, or unreviewed AI services. A strong dossier turns AI use into something traceable and defensible.
