In cyber security, HCM matters because it is a high-value target and a powerful source of identity and access information. Attackers may try to steal employee records for fraud, spear phishing, extortion, or social engineering, while defenders use HCM data to drive provisioning, deprovisioning, and role-based access control. When HCM connects to analytics or AI systems, security teams must also protect data lineage, least-privilege access, and audit trails so sensitive workforce data does not spread beyond its intended use.
