Human trafficking

coercive movement or control of people for exploitation.

Human trafficking is the coercive movement, recruitment, or control of people for exploitation. In cyber security, it matters because criminal groups may use trafficked workers to staff scam compounds, run phishing, handle fraud support, or manage stolen-account operations under threat, debt bondage, or confinement.

This creates a cybercrime supply chain that is harder to disrupt than a single malware sample or server. Trafficking can provide low-cost labor, constant availability, and strict control over victims, helping syndicates scale online fraud and laundering while reducing the chance that insiders will report activity. Defenders may see its effects in unusual account patterns, forced labor indicators, repeated identity abuse, or infrastructure linked to abuse of multiple victims. Recognizing the human-trafficking element helps investigators treat digital crime as both a technical and a human-rights problem.
