Hybrid Operations

Campaigns that combine cyber activity with information pressure, disruption, or psychological effects.

Hybrid operations are campaigns that combine cyber activity with non-technical pressure, such as propaganda, coercion, disruption, or psychological effects. The goal is often broader than stealing data or breaking systems: attackers want to influence decision-making, shake trust, and create operational confusion while technical actions continue in the background.

In cyber security, this matters because defenders may face multiple forms of harm at once. A network intrusion can be paired with leaks, false claims, denial-of-service activity, or pressure against staff and partners. That makes attribution, incident response, and public communication harder. Real-world defenses focus on layered resilience: strong perimeter controls, rapid patching, segmentation, monitoring for unusual access, and clear crisis communications. Teams also rehearse how to respond when technical incidents are accompanied by misinformation or disruptive messaging. In practice, hybrid operations are designed to exploit the gap between a security incident and the wider organizational response.
