ICT resilience

the ability of digital systems and services to keep functioning or recover quickly after disruption.

ICT resilience is the ability of digital systems, networks, and services to keep functioning or to recover quickly after disruption. It is broader than prevention: even when an attack, outage, software failure, or dependency problem gets through, resilient systems limit downtime and reduce business impact. In cyber security, resilience matters because availability is a core security goal alongside confidentiality and integrity.

In real environments, ICT resilience shows up in backup and restore processes, redundant infrastructure, failover, incident communications, and tested recovery plans. Attackers often try to break this layer with ransomware, destructive malware, or pressure on shared suppliers and cloud services. Defenders measure resilience through recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, and regular exercises that prove teams can restore essential services under stress. Strong governance is important because resilience depends on ownership, prioritization, and repeated validation, not documentation alone.
