Infrastructure activation is the point at which attacker-controlled systems begin supporting a campaign. These systems can include domains, servers, cloud resources, or other network assets used to host content, route traffic, deliver malware, or manage compromised devices.
For defenders, signs that malicious infrastructure is becoming operational can offer an early lead for investigation or filtering. Threat-intelligence teams may monitor newly observed domains, hosting changes, or related indicators, then compare them with internal network and endpoint telemetry. Such signals can support hunting or cautious blocking, but they do not prove that an organization is compromised; intelligence may be incomplete or mistaken and should be verified.
