Inventory handling

The operational management of available stock, including tracking, allocation and replenishment decisions.

Inventory handling is the operational management of available stock: tracking what is on hand, deciding where items should be allocated, and planning replenishment. In a dealership or other retail environment, it links sales, warehousing, and service operations, so accurate stock data is essential for fast decisions and reliable customer promises.

In cyber security, inventory handling matters because stock records are valuable business data and a tempting target for manipulation. Attackers may alter quantities, hide shortages, reroute orders, or exploit weak permissions to create fraud and disruption. Ransomware and insider abuse can also freeze or corrupt stock systems, stopping fulfillment and service work. Defenses include strong access control, audit logging, regular reconciliation with physical counts, segregation of duties, and review of automated recommendations. When AI is used, human verification is important so bad data does not become bad inventory decisions.
