An investable asset is a resource whose value can be assessed closely enough to attract capital. In cyber security, that can mean a domain, dataset, application, cloud workload, identity store, or piece of infrastructure that can be priced, ranked, or measured against risk. The more legible the asset is, the easier it is for organizations, insurers, buyers, or investors to fund it, insure it, or improve it.
This matters because value and risk often move together. Attackers look for investable assets when they can convert clear value into profit, such as by stealing data, extorting access, or abusing systems with known business importance. Defenders use the same idea in reverse: they inventory assets, estimate business impact, and prioritize controls like segmentation, patching, monitoring, and backup. In practice, making an asset investable also makes it easier to protect, because it forces a precise view of what the asset is worth and how it can fail.
