IoMT stands for Internet of Medical Things: networked medical devices such as infusion pumps, patient monitors, imaging systems, and wearable health sensors. These devices often connect to hospital networks for data sharing, remote management, or clinical workflow integration.
IoMT matters because a compromise can affect both cybersecurity and patient safety. Weak authentication, outdated firmware, poor segmentation, and missing asset inventory can let attackers alter device settings, disrupt care, or use the device as a foothold into the broader network. In real defenses, security teams treat IoMT as a special class of endpoint: they map and monitor devices, restrict traffic, apply strict vendor access controls, and validate updates carefully so clinical operations are not interrupted.
