KB5127648

An October Windows 11 security update linked to a reported issue affecting Smart App Control re-enablement on some devices.

KB5127648 is an October security update for Windows 11. It was linked to a reported problem in which some devices could not turn Smart App Control back on through Windows Security after the update. The reported issue is limited to devices where the feature was already off; devices with it enabled are described as unaffected.

Smart App Control helps restrict suspicious or untrusted applications using Microsoft app intelligence and Windows code integrity capabilities. A failure to re-enable it can leave a device without its intended application-control protection, even when the update has not disabled protection that was already active. Administrators should check the feature’s status after patching and, on affected devices, follow Microsoft’s documented registry or Group Policy mitigation. The reported behavior does not by itself indicate malware activity or a security compromise.
