Knowledge infrastructure

The shared tools and systems through which information is produced, filtered, and distributed.

Knowledge infrastructure is the shared set of tools, platforms, and processes that produce, filter, store, and distribute information. It includes search engines, internal wikis, news feeds, ticketing systems, threat-intelligence platforms, and even AI assistants that summarize or rank content. In cybersecurity, this matters because people rarely act on raw data alone; they rely on systems that decide what looks trustworthy, urgent, or relevant.

Attackers target knowledge infrastructure to shape decisions before a breach is obvious. Examples include poisoning search results, planting false documentation, tampering with internal knowledge bases, or feeding misleading data into AI systems and intelligence feeds. Defenders protect it with source verification, signed updates, access controls, audit logs, and review workflows that require human checking for high-impact claims. A resilient knowledge infrastructure helps analysts and users distinguish evidence from manipulation, which is essential for incident response, phishing defense, and sound policy decisions.
